We work with our training partner, SACS Computers, on practical digital skills training, from basic computer skills to web development and data analysis. We then help trainees look for internships and jobs.
We pair young people with experienced mentors. Mentors give career guidance and help with values and ethics at work. They also encourage young people to play an active part in their communities.
We run voter education, speak up for good governance and bring communities together to talk, so young people can take part in public life with confidence. We are non-partisan.
We work with host communities and corporate partners to provide basic amenities where they are most needed.
About 700 people aged 18 to 45 took part in IDEAS, a six-month World Bank-funded programme held at the SACS Computers Training Center in Makurdi. Most were unemployed graduates. Trainees had three months of hands-on training followed by three months of internship placement. The training was free, and SANF put forward young people from its mentorship programme as trainees. In the first cohort, between 60% and 95% of trainees completed their course, and between 50% and 80% of graduates went on to internships, jobs or career advancement, depending on the course. Michael, a Data Analysis trainee, became a Data Analysis Intern with a firm in Kano State.
Basic Computer Skills had the strongest results. Graphic Design and Python data analysis had the weakest, with about half of graduates moving into work. We are now adding employer partnerships and structured mentoring so that more trainees get from training to a job.
Mentor a young person, run a workshop or help at an event. Volunteers who work with young people go through our safeguarding checks.
